My friends and collaborators often create elaborate themed parties and events, all of which involve participatory activities. This has become a large part of my artistic practice and is something I have come to define as -paratheatrical experiences- theatrical events in which there is no audience and performer but instead facilitator and participants.
Events have included:
America Day Bonanza, a Fourth of July celebration that was part hot dog eating contest and part mud wrestling competition.
Kayla Dobbs' Uterus Independence Day, a birthday experience in which participants follow an extended slow-motion procession, meet a very long armed oracle who guides a ceremony of alcoholic libations and gifts, and who ushers participants through a tunnel to 2 hours of nonstop movement.
